The Process

Step 1: Initial Consultation and Estimate

The purpose of the Initial Consultation is to meet each other, take a look at the site and discuss your goals so that the scope of your project can be determined. I charge my regular hourly fee for an initial consultation but, if you hire me, the fee will be credited to your project. Based on the initial consultation, I will provide you an estimate for the design work and prospective timeframe.

Step 2: Second meeting and Property Survey

This meeting is to discuss in more detail the project and your preferences for things like color scheme, plants, etc. I always ask clients to give me photos of landscapes they like, as well as come up with a list of plant likes and dislikes. After our second meeting, I will return to the property to take photographs, measurements and a survey of existing plants to prepare a scale base map of the property, possibly taking soil and plant samples. I will develop a scale plan drawing, and sketches if needed, accompanied by a plant list with photographs and botanical names.

Step 3: Plan Review Meeting

Now the fun starts! We will meet to review ideas and preliminary drawings. Based on your feedback, I will then prepare a final plan and plant list.

Step 4: Post Design Assistance

If you need to find contractors to install your project I can recommend several names. For an additional fee, I can also serve as a project manager if you would like me to supervise the purchase of plants and/or oversee the installation process.

COST

I charge $100/hour. Typical design fees range from $500 and up depending on the level of complexity and size of the project.
